Saint Andrew's United
Methodist Church Our History
In 1957, the
Northeastern Conference of the United Brethren Church purchased land
in Warminster. In 1958 the Reverend John F Willson was appointed to
organize a congregation. The first service was held in the old
parsonage on February 1, 1959.
Worship and Sunday School
moved to Alta S. Leary School in March and the first eighteen people were
received as members in April.
Charter Sunday was held in
January of 1960 for the purpose of officially organizing the Warminster
Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Thirty-three members were
received. In the spring the name "St. Andrew's" was chosen in the hope that
the apostle Andrew, who brought others to Jesus, would serve as an example
for our church members that they too would bring others to the Lord.
Groundbreaking for the
original church, designed by architect and member Lauri J. Kurki, Sr., was
held on November 5, 1961. The cornerstone was put in place on September 2,
1962. In the fall of 1967 the current parsonage was built. In 1968 the
United Brethren Church merged with the Methodist Church, thus St. Andrew's
became St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.
As the congregation grew
so did the need for additional space and in 1978 the Youth Coop was added.
By the end of the 90's it
was clear that additional space was needed for continued growth. So more
class rooms were added, a new kitchen, Memorial Hall (where our Living
Praise Service is held) and a full Lower Level with additional class rooms
and space for our youth ministry has been added.
May God continue to bless
and guide us to do His will entering this new
beginning.
